@hejkumkejkum2 Maybe…but the thing was badly built in the first place for this to happen. My NC10 is working again now after watching this vid. At worst it’s back to the original state where it fails anyway after so many hours of use.

Many thanks to this tutorial!

It worked very well on my nc10…

I just had a working screen when i opened the display to the highest angle…

This tutorial fixed the problem really easy without any problems.

Thanks. I word of advice, don’t close the laptop once you’ve removed the monitor. It’s a bitch to correct.

Great video thanks! I am going to try this tonight but have bought the new cable from Ebay for about £15. Hopefully will work with these instructions, thanks!

Just followed your video and now my netbook is working better than it has done for (literally) months! I fiddled with the cable and then used a piece of electrical tape to hold the cable up out the way of the screen frame when closing it. No problem, all done and tidied away within 10 mins. Brilliant! Just saved 75 quid! Cheers.

After watching your (excellent) video and before doing any dismantling, I tried simply squeezing the display all along the bottom edge with the idea of re-seating the ribbon cable. It has worked! (But for how long?). The tiny electrical arc noise someone else here mentioned (short circuit sound) has disappeared and my display is stable with no white screen.
It might be a good idea to try squeezing before you dismantle your NC10. It has worked for me (so far).
Thanks, you’ve helped NC10 owners.

Following the video carefully solved a problem that’s been driving me potty for over a year. And if a techno-dummy like me can do it, anyone can..

My biggest problem was removing the screws. They had been machine-tightened and it took an age.

When everything was in pieces, I noticed that the original tape holding what appearedto be the main cable was loose. A wee strip of selotapetape seems to have done the trick.

Everything’s back together now and working like new. Many, many thanks. Neil

I’ve been performing this repair on my girlfriend’s N120 a few times now (I think this will be the third time in 8 months or so. Has anybody figured out a permanent fix? It’s easy enough to do and it does hold up for a few months each time but it’s still annoying.

This fixed the white screen problem on my out of warranty NC10 :)
Like Universalspezialist, once I’d dismantled it, the problem went away, and I couldn’t make the white screen reappear, even by fiddling with the cable.

For info, a few 2-5mm fragments of black plastic appeared on my towel, but it all fitted together fine. I guess they were edges left over from a less than perfect plastic moulding during manufacture? Perhaps part of problem? I don’t know.

Anyway – Many, many thanks :)

i tried this when it happened first time. i could even hear the noise of short circuit,i tried to stick it and that worked for about two month, but after that the problems started come over again. so now i decided to buy new cable(i found they cost only 8 pounds on ebay now).I hope this will help for longer time.

Just did this today. It works. Before I repaired it, the only way I could get rid of the white screen was to push the monitor all the way back, and even that didn’t work every time.

I really hope that this fix will last for a long time! I just hate that white screen of death, and I love my NC10.

I have never tried any repair on a computer before – this was a first! Even easier than the video as I did not have the sticky pads to cut loose. Make sure you take off the battery – I forgot and realised half way through. Thanks for this – brilliant!
