If it is this fast on release, every other distribution should begin to dig their own graves. Now.

@aromanstuff That is crazy. I’d be more impressed if it was a Pentium 4 with older Intel graphics. :P

@Enlawen Yeah, I know what you’re talking about. The problem is that (at least for me) enabling that is a major CPU hog. Like, moving windows around alot spikes my CPUs to 40%. Unlike metacity, but that’s because metacity doesn’t do a tenth of the things compiz does.

on compiz… go to the plugin move and deaktivate the ekonomik movement. Then your dock hides instantly.

I’m using german translations so I don’t know how it’s called in your compiz

Oh maaannnnnnnn. I prefer XFCE as a full desktop, but I’m so gonna try this.

What are the specs of your laptop?

@Metaldownloads The easiest way (if you won’t want to uninstall it) is just to rename the binary. E.g sudo mv /usr/bin/gnome-panel /usr/bin/gnome-panel_old

@aromanstuff ok thanks, I have a question, if I install wingpanel, how to remove gnome-panel?

User Gravatar
aromanstuff said in July 9th, 2011 at 9:57 pm

@Metaldownloads Of course, you can grab their code and build them yourself from launchpad.n_et/elementary

@aromanstuff Ahaha, okay :) . I’ve just downloaded ElementaryOS and I was wondering whether I can install it alongside Windows?

@PsyberS Lol, I love how they name things! :) Docky 3? Idk if I’ve heard of that. In the development PPA it’s at like 2.2.0. Do you know where I could get that to test it?

P.s, was he using Marlin in this or Gnome? I know once the next version of ElementaryOS is released it will use Marlin because their beta has it as the File Manager.
